Dutch Louis XIV style wooden mantelpiece with overmantel
Description
Dutch Louis XIV style wooden mantelpiece with overmantel, crafted from carved oak and pine, dating back to around 1740. Originally from an Amsterdam canal house, this piece features intricate wood carvings and a siena marble top that has influenced the fireplace’s distinctive patina. The mantel shows remarkable wear, revealing beautiful layers of original polychrome paint. A mover’s label dated 1912 confirms the fireplace was relocated over a century ago. The overmantel (trumeau) holds an original painting with a mirror beneath it; the painting can be swapped for an additional mirror if preferred.
