This impressive limestone sculpture from the 20th century depicts Mercury, the Roman god of commerce, communication, and speed. He is shown in heroic nude, standing, with a petasus (winged hat) on his head and the caduceus (the god’s staff) in his right hand. The sculpture rests on a finely detailed pedestal in Baroque style, which accentuates the grandeur of the figure.
