Antique French Rococo crested mirror, 19th century

This antique, giltwood crested mirror from the 19th century is carved in Rococo style. The crest is deeply and richly carved with exuberant scrolls (rocaille) and foliage. The frame features a double, detailed border: a beaded moulding and a strip with finely carved oak leaf motifs. The mirror displays an authentic, warm patina. The gilding is darker and warmer in tone in certain areas, possibly due to later enhancement to increase depth and contrast. The glass is clear and has a beveled edge.
