Antique French Renaissance cast iron fireback – dated 1688
Description
This large antique cast iron fireback is an original French Renaissance piece, richly decorated with a prominent central coat of arms. The shield is gracefully framed by laurel wreaths, symbols of victory and honor. Above the coat of arms sits an imposing knight’s helmet, indicating the noble or military background of the original owner. The refined ornamentation — featuring floral motifs and elegant lines — reflects the grandeur of the late 17th century.
An old crack in the cast iron bears witness to its age and adds to the character of the piece. In addition to its decorative appeal, the fireback protects the rear wall of the fireplace and improves heat distribution. An authentic and atmospheric element that fits beautifully into both classical and country-style interiors.
