Antique French Renaissance cast iron fireback – dated 1688

This large antique cast iron fireback is an original French Renaissance piece, richly decorated with a prominent central coat of arms. The shield is gracefully framed by laurel wreaths, symbols of victory and honor. Above the coat of arms sits an imposing knight’s helmet, indicating the noble or military background of the original owner.
