A richly carved antique French limestone mantelpiece with trumeau

Description

Very rich antique Louis XV fireplace. A French limestone mantelpiece with it’s original trumeau. One of three fireplaces from a vicarage in Bar le Duc, ± 1750.

The top of the trumeau exeptionally rich and finely carved. The mantel has straight jambs, a beautifully carved centre cartouche, A-symmetrical ornamentation, C-scrolls, guirlandes with flowers. The mantel has traces of black paint as was usually added in that period after the death of a king.

This fireplace is the richest of the 3 from the vicarage, all 3 have the same age and stone and ambiance, only the others are a little and a lot simpler.

opening: height ± 90 to 95 cm, width ± 128 cm
