A rich antique French sandstone fireplace with trumeau
Description
A rich antique sandstone Louis XIV / Baroque fireplace. A French limestone mantelpiece with its original trumeau. One of the three fireplaces of a rectory in Bar le Duc, ± 1750.
The cloak has straight styles and a nicely cut center cartouche, The top of the trumeau has cut-out decorations with C-scrolls and a scallop. The cloak has very light traces of black paint, which was applied as usual in the period after the death of a king.
