19th century bronze centre piece Venus shell champagne cooler

Description

19th century bronze centre piece Venus shell champagne cooler. This imposing and heavy table piece (Surtout a table) is a made of silver plated and gilt bronze. The large Venus Shell (that easily holds 2 bottles) is supported by fine gilt bronze seahorses or hippocampus emerging from the wavy sea. The hippocampus is a mythological sea creature used in many antique fountains such as the trevi fountains in Europe. Three bronze turtles are the feet. It is a stunning wine cooler from 1870, Renaissance Revival and reminds us of the beautiful fountains from that period.

(This centre piece comes without the two champagne bottles).
