Old Dutch Witjes and wall tiles

Wall tiles

Piet Jonker produces and supplies Old Dutch Witjes and wall tiles in different colors and variations. We make the Old Dutch wall tiles in the 18th century way, by hand in our own studio. We also have a collection of antique Dutch wall tiles.

We always have approximately 100 different shades of Witjes in stock. These color nuances – with or without crackle – are characteristic of Old Dutch Witjes and give the wall an authentic look. Our Witjes are also available (hand-) painted. Think of well-known motifs such as landscapes, children’s games and tulips. Your own design on these Old Dutch wall tiles is of course also possible.

A completely new look at the Old Dutch wall tiles are the black, the metallic and the green Witjes. These wall tiles were inspired by old Portuguese tiles and are very suitable in combination with a modern interior.

Originally, Old Dutch or Frisian Witjes were mainly intended to prevent leaking moisture in the walls. They were manufactured in many places in the Netherlands from the 16th to the late 19th century.
