ANTIQUE MARBLE FIREPLACES
An antique marble fireplace is a jewel in any house and an antique fireplace forms the heart of the home. An antique marble or sandstone fireplace is the centre of a home interior where happy memories are created. An antique fireplace makes a home complete and adds warmth and charm to an interior.
In the past, every house, large or small, used to have an open fire or stove. A fireplace is one of the most essential elements in an old house.
We believe this is still true today, even though central heating means a fireplace is no longer actually needed for heat, a fireplace is still one of the basic elements in any home or interior.
This is why antique fireplaces or open fires play such an important role for us. We have antique fireplaces in the most varied of styles. At Piet Jonker you have a choice of so many different antique marble fireplaces: from simple black marble fireplaces to the most richly decorated antique fireplaces made from a complete range of different types of antique marble.
We have 17th century antique fireplaces, comprising a sturdy marble profile, as a fireplace mantle and 18th century marble fireplaces in Louis XIV, Rococo, or Louis XVI style. These antique fireplaces are often French fireplaces but may also come from old Dutch canal houses. These antique fireplaces are often made from white or grey marble.
Empire fireplaces come from the beginning of the 19th century. After then came a period in which the 18th century styles were copied. A common model from that time is the "Trois Coquilles" fireplace. The second half of the 19th century is known as neoclassic period. During this period the rather more formal antique fireplaces were built, often in black marble.
